KNERGY Technical Symposium in Ankara: Hydrogen and Oxygen to Improve Pyroprocess Profitability
On 18 August 2026, KNERGY will bring together Turkish cement producers for a technical symposium on combustion, CBAM and the six value levers unlocked by injecting hydrogen and oxygen into the pyroprocess.
On 18 August 2026, KNERGY will bring together cement groups from Turkey in Ankara for a technical day dedicated to a specific question: how to turn decarbonization into a profitable asset for the plant.
The meeting will be held at the Limak Ambassadore Hotel, Limra Room 1, in Ankara, Türkiye, with access exclusively by invitation.
A working session for clinker producers
The symposium is neither a trade fair nor a commercial product presentation. It is a working meeting between engineers with direct experience in the cement industry and the technical and management teams of the Turkish cement groups.
Throughout the day, the discussion will examine the pyroprocess in depth, diagnose it with data and show how the controlled injection of hydrogen and oxygen can free up operating margin that is currently lost in thermal consumption, combustion limitations and emissions.
The cement industry faces double pressure: to improve operational profitability and meet increasingly demanding decarbonization goals. In clinker plants, fuel can represent up to 60% of the variable production cost, while the cement sector contributes close to 8% of global CO₂ emissions. The path to net-zero cement no longer begins in the long term: it requires introducing new combustion capacities during this decade.
CBAM converts each kcal/kg into export margin
For Türkiye, this pressure has a specific name: CBAM.
The European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism directly affects Turkish cement exported to its main market. When an exporter does not provide verified data for its actual emissions, it may be subject to punitive default values that increase the carbon cost compared to plants that do document their performance.
The commercial consequence is clear: thermal efficiency, clinker factor and CO₂ reduction are no longer just environmental indicators. They become variables that protect—or destroy—the export margin.
Every kilocalorie that drops from specific consumption, every point of clinker factor that is reduced and every ton of CO₂ avoided today translates into a defensible margin against the European border.
That will be the field of work in Ankara: not the theory of decarbonization, but the arithmetic of the competitiveness of a cement plant under the new rules of international trade.
What the day will cover
The agenda will go from the technical diagnosis to the business case, with real space for direct dialogue with those who designed the technology.
1. Pyroprocess diagnosis
The day will open with an honest reading of the cement pyroprocess: where energy is lost, why fuel dominates the variable cost and how the flame, sulfation and calcination behave under real operating conditions.
This diagnosis will be the common starting point before talking about any solution.
2. The six value levers of H₂ and O₂
The technical heart of the symposium will be to explain how hydrogen acts as a combustion catalyst and how oxygen enriches the pyroprocess to unlock six simultaneous sources of value, not just fuel savings.
Each lever will be grounded to the type of furnace and the operating conditions of the plant.
3. Inside Hydrobooster ALK technology
KNERGY will introduce the Hydrobooster ALK containerized alkaline electrolysis system, designed to operate in the harsh conditions of cement: abrasive dust, vibration, extreme temperature and 24/7 operation.
The session will address why KNERGY chose alkaline technology for this environment, how it integrates into the plant Operations Center, and what “plug and play” means in a real industrial operation.
4. Safety from the outset
Safety will not be treated as an afterthought. KNERGY will present its multi-layer architecture, HAZOP analysis developed with Siemens and learnings from destructive flashback tests in the field.
The design premise is explicit: assume that an event can exist and build the system to contain it.
5. The business case and financial model
The engineering will be translated into investment committee language: savings scenarios, return and the leasing model that allows you to pay for the equipment with your own operating savings.
The goal is to present verifiable metrics and avoid promises that cannot be technically sustained.
6. Direct dialogue and plant evaluation
The day will close with a direct conversation with the founding team and networking with peers from the Turkish industry. Interested groups will be able to start the path towards a preliminary technical-economic evaluation of their own plant, without obligation.
Six levers of value, a single injection
“What burns, how it burns and where it burns.” Each Nm³ of hydrogen injected into the pyroprocess can open up margin on several fronts at once.
Lower thermal consumption. The H₂ accelerates combustion kinetics and reduces the specific consumption of the oven, with a direct impact on cost and emissions. In the technical material of the symposium, KNERGY will work on reduction ranges from −30 to −70 kcal/kg of clinker.
High sulfur fuels. Catalyzed combustion allows operating with high sulfur and low reactivity petcoke, reducing dependence on premium fuels and additives.
Higher alternating rate. Hydrogen stabilizes the flame and enables greater substitution with RDF and biomass. For the plant, that means less expensive primary fuel and greater use of alternatives, the cost of which can be 30–70% less than the primary fuel.
More clinker production. The increased oxygenation of the pyroprocess frees up nominal latent capacity without investing in new kilns, mills or coolers.
More reactive clinker. A clinker with greater reactivity allows the clinker/cement ratio to be reduced while maintaining strength, generating more tons of cement with the same clinker.
Direct reduction of CO₂. KNERGY prioritizes H₂ and O₂ within calcination based on the individual study of each plant, seeking direct impact on emissions and CBAM margin.
We do not sell electrolyzers. We solve cement.
Where others offer generic equipment, KNERGY delivers a comprehensive solution conceived from within the cement industry.
The Hydrobooster ALK is not an electrolyzer adapted to cement. It was designed from scratch by engineers with decades of real operation in cement plants. The difference is in understanding the furnace, flame, fuels, operational variability and economic pressure of a 24/7 line.
KNERGY guarantees 96% uptime because the cement industry does not tolerate stoppages. The system is designed with redundancy in critical components and is integrated into the plant's Operations Center, with training for operation and maintenance and complete technical documentation.
Each implementation is based on a plant-specific CFD study to define injection points for H₂ and O₂ where they really generate value. It is not a generic recipe applied blindly.
Designed for plant decision-makers
The symposium is aimed at general directors, technical directors, plant managers, process engineers, energy and fuel managers, and investment committees.
Space is limited and access is exclusively by invitation. If your group produces cement in Türkiye and wants to turn the pressure of CBAM into a competitive advantage, this meeting is the place to start the conversation.
